UNIQUE PIECE - WATCH HAND PAINTED BY THE ARTIST ALESSANDRO BUSCI IN COLLABORATION WITH GRIMOLDI MILANO
Alessandro Busci, architect and painter, was born in 1971. He lives and works in Milan. Graduating from the Università del Politecnico di Milano with a thesis in Art History, Busci investigates the potential of the exchange between Western and Eastern iconographic tradition. His production is distinguished by the strong value of the sign, both painted and calligraphic, created on unconventional supports such as steel, copper, and aluminum worked with acids and enamels. He began exhibiting in 1996 at the 36th edition of the Suzzara Prize, and his solo exhibitions have been held in Milan, Rome, Brescia, Turin, London, Bordeaux, Madrid, Milan, Bilbao, San Francisco, and Naples. Since 1997, he has collaborated with Atelier Mendini, contributing to various architecture, decoration, and set design projects. In 1999, he won first prize at the Venetian competition "La Fenice et des artistes," and exhibited at the Antonia Jannone Gallery (Milan) with the solo exhibition "Dirty Water. Brown Light. Light," followed by "Steel Life" in 2002. In 2003, his solo exhibition was hosted at the Poltrona Frau Space in London, and in 2004, he was invited to the XIV Quadrennial Art Exhibition and was among the finalists of the fifth edition of the Cairo Communication Prize in Milan. In 2007, for the ten years of his activity, Italian Factory organized a solo exhibition at two locations (at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid and at the Institute for the Blind in Milan), and his works were included in "The New Italian Art Scene," a collective project hosted by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan, and in the exhibition "Italian Art 1968-2007. Painting," conceived by Vittorio Sgarbi (Royal Palace, Milan). In 2008, the exhibitions "8" took place at the Mark Wolfe Gallery in San Francisco (CA, USA), and "Cor-Ten," an important project comprising fifty large-format works on iron depicting the spaces of the contemporary city, was exhibited in Turin concurrently with T2 Triennale of Contemporary Art and later at the First Gallery in Rome (2009). In 2011, the solo exhibition "Milan-Naples" took place at the Al Blu di Prussia Gallery in Naples, and in 2012, Flavio Caroli curated the retrospective "Omar Galliani | Alessandro Busci - A Generational Passage (center of permanent gravity)" at the MAGA Museum in Gallarate (VA). In 2014, the Milan Triennale dedicated a major exhibition to him titled "In Alto Milano." Among the most significant publications are the volumes Alessandro Busci, Skira, Milan 2007; Cor-ten, Electa, Milan 2008; Busci Biennale, Maretti Editore, San Marino 2011; Omar Galliani | Alessandro Busci - A Generational Passage (center of permanent gravity), Silvana Editoriale, Cinisello Balsamo (MI) 2012. His art investigates the potential of the exchange between Western and Eastern iconographic traditions, and his production is distinguished by the strong value of the sign, both painterly and calligraphic, created on unconventional supports such as steel, copper, and aluminum worked with acids and enamels, or on the more traditional paper. Among his most important exhibitions: participation in the Venice Biennale in 2010, the solo exhibition at the Milan Triennale in 2014, the exhibition at the Soglia Magica of Malpensa in 2017, and also exhibitions in Milan, Rome, Naples, Turin, San Francisco, Bilbao, London, Madrid, and Lugano. He entered the San Patrignano collection in 2018.
